What to do during the holidays

1 0

It’s holiday season!

After a very tasking year of school and all its activities, it’s finally time to get some well-deserved rest and fun. Being away from school work and activities can sometimes be boring, and I mean that in the sense of not having much to do if you’re spending most of your time at home. You’ll definitely have time to play games, watch TV, see some friends or watch some TikToks, but these could get repetitive and boring for some. It’s also not very healthy for you to have so much screen time for a long period of time. So instead of sitting around all day playing games, here are some things you can do to keep yourself busy during the summer break:

  • Help out at home: Sometimes we tend to forget how hard our parents and guardians work, trying to give us a comfortable life. Grownups would love to kick back and relax as well! But if they do this all day, I’m sure many of you would be starving by the end of the day. Holidays shouldn’t be for students alone…you can also give your parents/guardians a little break by helping out at home wherever you can. It can be as little as cleaning up after yourself at breakfast, lunch and dinner, tidying up your room, or not leaving your dirty laundry scattered on the floor. These little tasks won’t cost you so much to do by yourself, and you can even make chores fun by playing some music (at a moderate level, though) or having a little dance break in between.
  • Learn a new language: Learning new languages can be very exciting as much as they are educational. There are various platforms available for you to learn languages. For starters, you could give Duolingo a try. You can find out more about it here. You could also use Youtube or try watching films or tv shows in the language that you’re learning.
  • Learn a new skill: Having much free time means that you can pick up a skill or two. Think about the things you like doing, and the things you would like to do, and work on these things. You can always learn about new things on useful sites online and these sites will guide you in building a new skill. This skill could be drawing, painting, cooking, gardening or writing. Whatever skill it is, you can learn it if you put your mind to it.
  • Do away with things you don’t need: Having clutter around the house can be an annoying thing to see. The good thing about this is that you can do away with the clutter. Carefully go through all your things and put aside the things that you hardly use  and the things that know you won’t be using anytime soon or at all. Put them in a box/bag, and send them out to charities or other places where they will be appreciated. Apart from keeping your space neat, this will make someone else somewhere happy.
  • Prepare for the next session: Not everybody may like to hear this, but being prepared for the next academic session is always a good idea. Sure, you’re getting a break from school, but as the days of the holiday reduce, and as school resumption gets closer, getting your affairs in order will do you good. It’s best to have everything you need ready and not wait till last minute when you could forget important things. If you have any holiday assignments, make sure that they’re all done and ready for submission. If you need to get new supplies, inform your parents/guardians on time so that they have ample time to prepare as well. Try and get yourself ready for the new session so that you will feel refreshed and excited for the new term!

While doing all these things during your holiday, don’t forget to do the most important thing-rest. You may not think that you need it, but your mind and body will thank you for it. Get enough rest so that you will be ready to take on the next academic session and perform well. The key is trying to balance work and play both at home and in school, and if you set your mind to it, you can do it.
